POSITION TITLE:  Chair of Cataloging Department

           

POSITION SUMMARY:

12 month tenure-track position. Supervises the cataloging department in all functions. Coordinates policies and practices of the department within those of the library. Serves as the library’s authority on cataloging and authority work. Progresses successfully along the tenure and promotion track and participates fully as a member of the library faculty.

 

IMPACT STATEMENT:

As the bibliographic database that is the library's primary catalog and gateway to all material either held by or given access to, the Chair of Cataloging is the primary librarian for assuring complete and accurate access to such information resources. The Chair also assists, along with other Department Chairs, in planning for future needs and services of the department and the library; and advises regarding migrating library system bibliographic, holdings, and item records in the event of the consideration of a new library information system.  

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Reports to, is evaluated by, and serves at the pleasure of the Dean of the Library.

 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Manages 5 full-time support staff and indirectly supervises student assistants.

 

MINIMAL ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

 

ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of a foreign language. Second master’s degree.
