A patron requesting a library card needs to come to Cunningham Memorial Library at the main Check Out Desk.
Most patrons may borrow library books by presenting their Student ID Card or Library Guest Card if you are over 18 years of age and can present a valid Driver‘s License or photo identification.
Yes, one may borrow most of the books or items from CML even though you are not from ISU with a Guest Card.

If you move, please inform the Circulation Department so that your patron record may be edited.

Please inform the Circulation Department that your card has been lost. You will also need to call Public Safety & Security to inform them of your lost ISU ID.
The current limit, as per the library policy, is 250 items.
A staff member would need to check into your record and discover the reason for the block. If you find a block on your library record, please call (812)237-2541.
If an item is still on your account after you've returned it, please fill out the online search request form here.
The amount would vary according to the price of the book. After 27 days, you would be billed a replacement cost for the item plus an non-refundable $8.00 fee.
Books, Journals (if you are a Graduate or Faculty member), Periodicals, Government Documents, Textbooks, Videos, CDs, Micro materials (film, fiche, card), some equipment.
Undergraduate students may check out most items for 21 days. Graduate students may check out most items for one semester (120 days). ISU faculty and staff may check out most items for an extended loan period.
Books may be renewed up to three (3) times online, by phone (237-2541) or at the main Check Out Desk.
When items are checked out at the main Check Out Desk, a dated receipt will be inserted in each book. In addition, an email reminder notice will be sent just before the item is due. For ISU Faculty, Staff and Students the email notice will come to your ISU Account. For non-affiliated persons a paper notice will be sent. On the 8th day, past the due date, a courtesy first overdue notice will be sent out; on the 25th day, past the due date, a courtesy second overdue notice will be sent out; and, on the 28th day, past the due date, a lost book bill will be generated and sent out.
You may request a book on loan to another patron. Notification of the recall is issued immediately, but the initial 3 weeks due date will not be shortened. Recalls can be requested by clicking here.
A recall will be placed and you will be notified that someone else has requested the item.
For items "On Order" or "In Process" you may fill out a form by clicking here. You will be notified by email when the items are available for use.
You may request a search for an item not found on the shelf, or in pre-shelving. When the item is located, it will be held for you and you will be notified of its availability. Searches can be requested by clicking here.
Remote Storage items are journals kept in a separate location outside of the Library. These are old volumes of journals that are used less frequently. You may request a Remote Storage item by clicking here.
This is called "Proxy Borrowing" and it allows you to enable a graduate assistant/office assistant to check out library materials for you using your University ID without having to carry and present your ID to library staff. You may authorize "Proxy Borrowing" by clicking here.
If you need a book that ISU does not own, it may be obtained through the Interlibrary Loan Department.
Items may be returned through the outside book drops located on the south, north, and east sides of Cunningham Memorial Library, or through the inside book drop at the Checkout Desk. Reserve items MUST be returned directly to the Circulation Desk.
Interlibrary Loan books may also be returned through the outside book drops located on the south, north, and east sides of Cunningham Memorial Library, or through the inside book drop.
When returning an item, a patron may bring the item to the Check Out Desk and request a Discharged receipt. You may also access your account to make sure a returned item has been taken off your account.
You may return books from other libraries by bringing the items to the Check Out Desk and filling out a special form for other libraries.
Reserves are items that a faculty/teaching staff has placed on reserve to assist classroom research.
These items are available at the Check Out Desk and/or online.
Bring your Sycamore card to the Check Out Desk and ask for the item under the faculty member's name or course name.
Items placed on reserve may be borrowed for 2hrs, 4hrs, 1 day, 3 days, or 7 days depending upon limits established by the instructor. Reserve items are only available to ISU affiliates.
Renewals can be made online, by phone (237-2541) or in person at the Check Out Desk.
Holds cannot be placed on reserve items.
The library is not currently assessing fees for overdue reserve items. However, items tagged as "lost" will be billed at full replacement value.
