OER and Emerging Technology Librarian: 12-month tenure-track position that designs and works with open educational resources (OER), web applications, social media, and mobile interfaces.

The OER and Emerging Technologies Librarian identifies, implements, and evaluates current and emerging technologies for the delivery of library services, with a special focus on social networking applications, mobile services, and instructional technologies; plans, develops and evaluates the Cunningham Memorial Library website; and works with the Research/Instruction faculty to ensure that Library’s instructional resources are easy to use.

This librarian will provide leadership and responsibilities in the identification, assessment, and implementation of emerging technologies that further the library’s mission and increase and enhance access to library resources and services; work with users to improve access to Library technology services through outreach and instruction and make recommendations to improve online access; track changes in technology, resource platforms, and related tools that impact library users as well as use social media and other online communication tools to ensure that changes in technology are well advertised to the entire university community.

The OER and Emerging Technologies Librarian is responsible for college-wide administrative support of Indiana State University’s OER initiatives, with emphasis on professional development, identification of OER course content and overall support for adoption of OER. This librarian will charged with the creation and curation of OER content at ISU.

As part of the Systems department team, the person in this position will provide assistance to students and others in the wider community to ensure full access to library technology services, as well as coordinate work with other Library units to fulfill the mission of the Library and the University. T

his librarian will be expected to progress successfully along the tenure and promotion track and participate fully as a member of the library faculty.

Reports directly to the Chair of the Systems Department.

Staff position, Library Resource Sharing Associate

Library Resource Sharing Associate: Fulltime, benefits-eligible staff position. Assists in all phases of the Interlibrary Loan Unit. Includes use of specialized software, customer service, billing, manual searches of the library collection, and use of standard office equipment including scanners and fax machine. Responsible for the appropriate sorting, distribution, and packaging of all Interlibrary Loan and Statewide Remote Circulation System incoming and outgoing mail. Implements and maintains procedures and policies. Ensures quality library services and resolves related problems. Serves as the Resource Sharing Associate and participates in the supervision of student assistants. Participates in goal setting and planning objectives. Possesses good interpersonal skills, including tact, courtesy and civility in accordance with the Library’s mission, vision and values.

Position requires a working knowledge of: ILLiad, Sierra, OCLC, ALA ILL Code, lending policies of other libraries, copyright laws, billing management software and Microsoft Office programs.

Reports directly to the Chair of the Technical Services Department and indirectly to the Resource Sharing Coordinator.

Digital Initiatives Technician – Part Time, No BenefitsThis position has responsibility for the Special Collections Department web presence, including design, standardization and maintenance; customizes and manages open source applications; performs product testing, troubleshooting and usability testing; writes and edits programming code for a variety of server platforms; supports data management activities as defined by the Data Curation Librarian. All activities are performed in support of, in consultation with, and under the supervision of the Data Curation Librarian.

Requires BS in Computer Science with demonstrated experience in web design, coding languages, preferably PHP, HTML, and JavaScript.

  • Period of employment: Feb. 15, 2016 to July 31, 2016;  25 weeks
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, between 8:00am and 4:30pm, 28 hours weekly limit
  • Pay Rate: $12.00 per hour, no benefits, no overtime

  • Performs specialized library work requiring expertise in Sierra integrated library system’s (ILS) Acquisitions and Cataloging modules; solely responsible for ordering, receiving, and invoicing monographic materials and media.
  • Education: High School diploma or GED
    Experience: 3 years library or relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Utilizes knowledge of library practices, procedures and available and potential information resources, including web-based and electronic tools. Searches local, national and international databases for source materials that meet established criteria for import. Verifies accurate and complete searching and recording of bibliographic information. Solves bibliographic problems by searching library online bibliographic database, OCLC (online computer library center), and other appropriate sources. Creates provisional bibliographic records in various formats as needed, with authority control and following guidelines for that format., Utilizing Sierra’s integrated library system, approves requests for purchase, downloading and modifying monographic and electronic resource bibliographic records from OCLC (online computer library center). Attaches order records to the Bibliographic Title record and inputs location, funding, order date, receive date, format, vendor and internal notes. Creates vendor records and invoices. Verifies funding, tracks orders, and creates lists for collection development. Receives items into Sierra’s integrated library system. Verifies material is correct and in good condition. Processes invoices for payment in Sierra and creates Check Requests or Foundation Disbursement Forms to secure payment., Serves as advisor to subject liaison librarians and dean regarding fund balances and purchase requests. In collaboration with the Technical Services Budget/Allocation Specialist, jointly monitors spend-down of all 120 allocated fund balances and deposit accounts totaling over $2,000,000. Also serves as back-up to Technical Services Budget/Allocation Specialist, processing orders and invoices for non-monographic materials (newspapers, journals, and serials) Assists in maintaining Current Periodicals area by checking in materials to accurately reflect library’s actual print holdings. Includes boxing and labeling print journals for permanent shelving in stacks and recording statistics for pull list spreadsheet., Copy catalogs monographic materials placing bar codes on books and creating item records. Provides training for involved employees assisting in copy cataloging. Catalogs monographic orders and averages 600+ per year., Works jointly with Interlibrary Loan to quickly process “Books on Demand” and “Media on Demand” requests from patrons as high priority. Processes Rush materials, researching fastest way to purchase items needed and quickest possible shipping method for materials that will help students or faculty in their classes, or will benefit vital campus programs., Maintains working relationship with 200+ vendors. Verifies/obtains W9 tax forms from new vendors. Utilizes Vendor websites to check availability prior to placing orders. Processes vendor reports and documents vendor comments using internal notes in order records. Researches cancellation notices for possible reorder through alternate methods. Fields questions concerning invoices/orders., Supervises bibliographic searching and related tasks performed by student assistants. Assigns priorities for these tasks and maintains workflow. Trains student assistants performing these tasks and reviews their work. Also assists in hiring student assistants., Maintains procedural manual for tasks of this position. Addresses workflow issues regarding Patron driven acquisitions/Demand driven acquisitions and shelf ready books., Performs other duties as assigned.

Public Services Overnight Assistant – TEMP (Renewable 9 month position, Fall/Spring only)

 Period of employment: Approx. July 27, 2015 to May 6, 2016;  38-40 weeks of employment

  • Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 2:00 a.m. to 7:30 a.m., 28 hours per week
  • Pay Rate:  $12.89 per hour, no benefits

Provides support for the Overnight Supervisor responsible for the library facility and services during the 11:00pm to 7:00am shift and provides backup for that staff person allowing the library to function effectively during overnight hours.
