Tips

Here are some things to remember about APA style.

  • Capitalize the first word in the tile of books, journal articles, and magazine articles and the first word after a colon in the title.
  • Capitalize propers nouns in titles.
  • Capitalize all important words in journal titles.

  • Give the volume number of journals and magazines. If each issue of a journal begins on page 1, give the issue number in parentheses.
  • If a journal does not use volume numbers, include the month, season, or other year designation instead.
  • Only include the page number in the in-text citation if the citation is for a direct quote. If the citation is for a paraphrase or summary it is not necessary to include the page number.
