How to Avoid Plagiarism

There are several different style manuals, each one slightly different from the others. Academic disciplines usually favor one style over another.

The sciences and social sciences use APA (American Psychological Association) style, which is published in the Publication manual of the American Psychological Association. The humanities use MLA (Modern Language Association of America) style, which is published in the MLA handbook for writers of research papers.
