Illustrations & Advertisements: Scholarly

Cover of Pacific Science, a scholarly journal

Scholarly journals do not have an enticing cover. Often, the Table of Contents is displayed on the cover of the journal. Scholarly articles have very few pictures or ads; the ads present are usually for employment, conferences or items (such as books) dealing with the topic of the journal. The pictures or ads are almost always in black and white; very little if any color is found in a scholarly journal. The articles within a scholarly journal are text-based; usually the only illustrations consist of charts, graphs or tables dealing with the article.
