Library Catalogs

What does a library catalog do?

A library catalog tells you all the items a particular library has. These items are also called the library's holdings. Examples of library holdings include

  • books;
  • journals (not journal articles);
  • newspapers;
  • maps; and
  • videos, video games, sound recordings, etc.
