Background

The Internet is a collection of computer networks that communicate with each other to transfer information. The Internet is made of many different systems that were developed independently. Some of the better-known systems are email, telnet, and the World Wide Web.

The World Wide Web, or simply the Web, transmits multimedia (graphics, audio, and video) in addition to text. It is the only system on the Internet that can transmit multimedia.
