Do you need a quick review? Here is a cheat sheet to print.

  • Web of Science is made up of 3 different indexing databases: Arts & Humanities Citation Index, Social Sciences Citation Index, and Science Citation Index Expanded.
  • You can search each database individually or collectively.
  • If you know what discipline your topic falls under, search the particular database that covers that discipline.
  • Web of Science is not a full-text database.
  • Web of Science only indexes scholarly journals.
  • The General Search searches for articles about a topic and/or written by a particular author(s).
  • The Cited Ref Search searches for articles and/or authors others have cited in their works. The Cited Ref Search also searches for books and/or authors of books that others have cited in their works.
