What are Reserves?
CML Reserves is a collection of course-related materials supplemental to classroom instruction. Professors, instructors, or teaching assistants can place library or personal copies materials on reserve. All reserve materials and scanning service materials must follow fair use rights and copyright law. Due to copyright restrictions, course packets cannot be placed on reserve.
For questions, contact the Reserves Supervisor, Charles Parker - 812.237.2543
Faculty Information
Forms
- Form for Library Owned Items to be placed on Reserve
- Form for placing Personal Items on Reserve
- Form for requesting scan for BlackBoard
Personal Materials
We will place your personal materials on Reserve. The Library is not liable if personal copies are lost; however, Reserve staff will contact the patron concerning replacement charges, which are consistent with Library fine policies. To use this service, download the Form for placing personal copies on reserve and bring the item and the form to the library.
Library-owned Materials
Reserve Desk staff will pull Library books for placement on Reserve. Please provide us with a list of the books and their call numbers on the Form for placing library owned items on reserve. The form for placing material on electronic Reserve may be found at: Library Owned Materials form.
Blackboard Scanning Service / eReserves
The library offers a scanning service for articles and other short texts for instructors to upload to Blackboard courses.
The library places on reserves only items that are required reading; recommended readings should not be requested for reserves.
We can scan portions of personal copies or library-owned materials that fulfill pedagogical requirements for a course and fall under fair use
Fill out the Request Scan for Blackboard form and bring it to the library
Copyright compliance is the responsibility of the faculty member posting the content. For guidance on fair use and when to seek permissions please consult the CML Fair Use LibGuide and Asking for Permissions Tab.
Materials on eReserve may be fair use if the material is posted only for the amount of time it is used in class and removed promptly thereafter. If you plan to use this method and don't know how to set an availability timeframe in Blackboard, please consult with our Reserves person, or Blackboard Services at x7000.
Access will be limited to the instructors and students registered for the course and will be available via Blackboard only.
Electronic files should be removed from Blackboard when they are no longer used for reserve services.
The library will not fulfill scanning requests if they are in violation of copyright, library staff reserve the right to deny any request if the request infringes on copyright.
Other Information
The period of time required for processing a Reserve list varies according to the volume of Reserve requests, availability of materials, and delays in retrieving books on loan. Please keep in mind that processing delays increase during the beginning of each semester when the number of requests is high.
Lists will be processed in the order in which they are received.
Submit a request form at least 1 week prior to the time an assignment is announced to the students.
Please do not request more than 30 items for a course without consulting with the Reserve staff about how you would like the items prioritized.
